Shooter Kills One, Wounds Seven Other People at Church in Tennessee

One person has been killed and six other people wounded in a shooting at Burnett's Chapel Church of Christ outside Nashville, Tennessee. The shooter is among the wounded according to a tweet from the Nashville Fire Department.

"This is a mass casualty situation," the Nashville Fire Department tweeted during the incident. "All of the wounded have been transported to area hospitals. The majority are older adults."


According to Nashville police, the shooting occurred in Davidson County, which is part of Nashville. The MNPD said it received calls of multiple shots fired around 11:15 a.m. CT. 

The gunman was described by police as a man in his mid-20s, who shot and killed a woman who was walking to her car as a prayer service was letting out according to police. 

The suspect fired "multiple rounds" toward people at the building, wounding six people. Another person was pistol-whipped by the gunman, police say. 

The area around the scene has been shutdown while authorities investigate the situation.
